2013: The Year of the Snake
This is according to the Chinese Zodiac, though it does not begin until 10 February. Now I’m way beyond my reproductive years, but for those you who will procreate in 2013, your offspring will be keen and cunning as well as intelligent and wise. According to the Chinese Zodiac, they will be great mediators and good in business. People born under this sign are not outwardly emotional. They can be plotters and schemers. But also, proud and passionate. Contemplative and private. They also can become bored easily. Change jobs frequently. But they are also conscientious and diligent at work. Organized and precise. They face danger fearlessly and have a strong personality and will hold fast to their position.
Some famous people who were born under the Sign of the Snake: Ann Rice, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy, Oprah Winfrey and Queen Elizabeth I.
Interesting. So I thought I’d go check out my Zodiac Sign…
So, I was born under the sign of the Horse. Hmmmm. Not telling what year, but I suppose you can guess. According to the Chinese Zodiac, these people are active and energetic. Have plenty of sex-appeal and know how to dress. My husband is laughing hysterically at this since my stable attire is yoga pants and an oversized sweatshirt. But lets move on. “In general, the Horse is Gifted.” Okay, now I’m listening… until they went on to say that us born under the sign of the Horse have boundless energy and ambition. Okay, so maybe I have a little ambition. But we horse people also have a hard time belonging. Yeah. That’s very true.
They say Horse people are hot-blooded, hot-headed, and impatient. Me? No. Never! But they also say that when it comes to matters of the heart, the Horse is weak. We will give up everything for love.
Truest statement: “there are many contradictions in the Horse’s character”. And here I thought that was because I was a Gemini. We are proud, yet sweet-natured. Arrogant, yet modest. Envious but tolerant. Conceited yet humble. According to my sources, Horse people are extremely likeable as well as obstinate. I’m not obstinate. Not at all. Supposedly we are quick-witted, so why is that the best comeback lines I come up with happen hours after I needed them. Argh.
One thing that really intrigued me about my sign is that they say the first and second part of the Horse’s life will be full of ups and downs. But that the third phase will be a peaceful one. Okay, I’m ready for the third phase!!!
And the company this Horse keeps: Thomas Edison, Ingmar Bergman, Barbra Streisand, Clint Eastwood
Now, I wonder what sign Bob was born under… Ah, the Year of the Pig. Did you know that Pigs are models of sincerity, purity, tolerance and honor? Pigs are careful and caring, obliging and chivalrous. They won’t let you down. Pigs simply want to do everything right. Yeah. I think that pretty much sums up Bob. But let us see what else they say about the Pig.
Pigs are born to give, to yield and serve. And many take advantage of the pig.
“The pig doesn’t say much… but when he does decide to speak, suddenly, nothing can stop him until he runs out of subjects.” OMG. That is Bob to a T! This past November I picked him up at the airport, and then we had a 3-hour drive. The first hour, he said absolutely nothing. I mean nothing. Barely even said hello. Then, out of nowhere, he began talking…for the rest of the drive…about everything.
The Pig as a huge thirst for knowledge. Ya think?
With the Pig, it’s all or nothing. But the Pig is also practical, logical and down to earth. They don’t usually let emotion cloud any issue. Once a Pig has come to a decision, nothing can stop him from carrying it out.
Some celebrities who were born in the Year of the Pig (besides Bob): Woody Allen, Julie Andrews, Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg.
What sign of the Zodiac are you?
Now, we’ve been running a contest on the blog. I’m extending that contest to this blog. Anyone who comments will be put into a drawing for a free audio book from Bob! How cool is that?

My oldest boy is a Pig, and that describes him to a T. He was also born in the year of the Golden Pig, so he has everything in excess
I can’t remember what I am, but now I have to go look it up
Love this. Thanks for the great run-down on Pigs. I’m one myself, and mostly I’ve read we’re people-pleasers who get taken advantage of all the time. This is so much nicer! Horses sound more glamorous, I must say.
I just looked up the Chinese zodiac – I’m an Ox. The description sounds very accurate. I looked up the compatible signs found my husband’s – the Rooster. Maybe there’s something to it after all… Thanks for mentioning it!
I’m not sure which I am (boar or rat) due to being born on or around Chinese New Year. Neither of them fit me at all, though, so I guess it’s all fairly irrelevant.
Oh, I’m definitely a Snake. My kid’s very proud of being a Dragon. The hubby’s a Rabbit under the Chinese zodiac and a Virgo under the Greek. For some reason, he gets annoyed I walk around calling him my Virgin Bunny.
Pig. Virgo. INTJ. Now you know everything. That you’re authorized to know.
Okay, so now am I in the drawing for the audiobook?
Year of the Dog. Not sure what that means, but I do have a fear of dogs.
Sheep… but the sites I looked at had differing descriptions so some fit me like a glove, and others not at all.
That was fascinating, Jen. I actually have a book on the Chinese Zodiac, and yet the info you’ve put on this post was very concise and clear. I have 2 Roosters, and a Horse with my boys, and there are also 3 more Horses in the family and your info depicts them perfectly. They’re real enigmas to all who are not Horses, that’s for sure. So this sort of insight helps. I’m a Wood Dragon, we have the attributes of Dragon but we are called ‘the reluctant dragon’ because we eschew the limelight and would be much happier living a quiet life in the background. Something I have to overcome in order to be a successful writer!
